A private plane or helicopter is known as an air ambulance service. The vast majority of helicopters are used for emergency transport. The planes that are configured for medical flight are mostly used for non-emergency transports.
For the airplanes that do medflights, an FAA approved stretcher is put in place of some of the seating. The interior is designed to hold an Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit. This is onboard along with any special medical equipment a patient may beed on a case by case basis.
The amount of air ambulance service companies has increased at an incredible rate in the last four years. The pool of individuals in need of medical transfer service, specifically air ambulance service, has also grown. Directory of Air Ambulance Service Providers
